Ready to take over the super welterweight division, Vergil Ortiz Jr. must first defend the interim WBC super welterweight title on November 8 against the dangerous Erickson Lubin.
Ortiz (23-0) fought sparingly over the last few years after suffering from rhabdomyolysis. Moving from welterweight to super welterweight, the 27-year-old beat Serhii Bohachuk for interim gold and defended the belt against Israil Madrimov in February.
Now healthy, the Golden Gloves winner looks to impress in his hometown of Texas as he awaits fights against full-time champions at 154.

With over 140 wins as an amateur, Lubin (27-2) lost against Jermell Charlo and Sebastian Fundora for super welterweight gold. Between those losses and after, Lubin has gone 9-2. On a three-fight win streak, the 29-year-old has 19 wins via knockout.
“The Hammer” is ranked tenth in the WBC’s super welterweight rankings and first with the IBF. Getting another crack at gold, Lubin is ready to break the mighty Ortiz.
“Since Fundora , Lubin fought (Luis) Arias, who he dominated and stopped; the undefeated (Jesus) Ramos, highly touted and yet couldn’t do anything with Lubin; and the undefeated (Ardreal) Holmes looked like a scared puppy,” said ProBox CEO Garry Jonas. “Don’t be surprised, the Hammer is going to beat Ortiz.”
