College football fans will be in for a real treat at the start of the 2025 FBS season, when Clemson hosts LSU in a rare regular-season clash in primetime. This will mark just the fifth time the two Tigers programs have faced off, the first since the 2020 National Championship Game and the first time ever in the regular season.

LSU won that 2020 title game 42-25 in New Orleans, as Joe Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson fans remember and Trevor Lawrence fans would probably like to forget. Clemson now has a chance to avenge that loss, exactly 2,056 days later.

The matchup between the perennial powerhouses will be broadcast on ABC, marking the fourth consecutive year LSU's season-opener will have aired nationally. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m. ET, so most NCAA football fans will be watching this game. The true diehards, of course, will be attending Memorial Stadium to experience this rare clash in person.

LSU and Clemson both had strong seasons in 2024. LSU went 9-4 and won its last three games including a 44-31 win over Baylor in the Texas Bowl. Clemson finished 10-4 but fell to Texas in the first round of the CFP Playoffs.

LSU has gone 3-1 lifetime against Clemson, with all four previous meetings coming during the postseason. LSU’s wins over Clemson came in the 1959 Sugar Bowl, the 1996 Peach Bowl, and the aforementioned 2020 title game. Clemson’s only win over LSU came in the 2012 Chick-fil-A Bowl.
