It's win or go home now. Chelsea and Benfica will face off in the Club World Cup Round of 16 with advancement on the line.
Chelsea, one of the best in the Premier League, narrowly finished second in Group D, but it picked up some speed to close out the group stage with a 3-0 victory over Espérance. Liam Delap, the club's newest star, recorded his first goal for the Blues with aa goal to end the first half, giving Chelsea a 2-0 lead at that point. The club never looked back.
As Chelsea prepares to face Benfica on Saturday in Charlotte, the team will have the benefit of rest after assigning players like Cole Palmer, Reece James and Pedro Neto to the bench against ES Tunis.
The Blues will have to start the match must quicker, though, if it wants to avoid elimination against Benfica. The Portuguese squad finished first in Group C thanks to a 1-0 win over Bayern Munich, a 6-0 win over Auckland City and draw with Boca Juniors.
Ángle de María has been one of the best in the tournament thus far, scoring three goals in two matches. However, it was Andreas Schjelderup who became a hero against Bayern. If they can find their rhythm early against Chelsea, Benfica should cruise through to the quarterfinals.
