Real Madrid star clarifies transfer stance amid Ligue 1 interest image

Dani Ceballos has stopped his transfer to Olympique de Marseille despite negotiations being close to completion.

Talks between the clubs advanced on Tuesday, with AS reporting that Ligue 1 side offered a loan with a mandatory purchase next summer for €1.1m [$1.2m] plus €4m [$4.6m] in variables.

Real Madrid, who initially asked for €15m [$17m] , were ready to accept the package but former Real Betis star has preferred to stay at Madrid.

According to reports, the 29-year-old leaving for Marseille would not serve his career even with limited opportunities under Xabi Alonso.

The manager has preferred to rely on Fede Valverde, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Jude Bellingham and Eduardo Camavinga while Arda Güler has also been used in midfield ahead of the Spaniard.

Betis could move for Real Madrid star if one move collapses

Ceballos’ long-term preference has reportedly been a return to Real Betis if he is unable to get regular playing time. Otherwise, he would like to stay in Madrid and fight for the spot.

Reportedly, for now Betis are pursuing Manchester United winger Antony in a move that would stretch their finances, leaving little room for another major signing.

If that pursuit doesn’t end on the right note, Manuel Pellegrini’s side may revisit the possibility of re-signing Ceballos.

Los Blancos for their part will allow Ceballos to leave once the player agreed to the transfer.

Now, the midfielder remains in Madrid, waiting to see if Betis or another club makes an offer that satisfies both him and the club before the transfer window closes.
