USA vs. England: Live updates, game highlights

The United States women's national team has knocked out the hosts in its quest for back-to-back FIFA Women's World Cup titles.

Megan Rapinoe led the team to victory, scoring both the opening goal and the match-winner. Rapinoe's free kick in the fifth minute found its way untouched into the back of the net through heavy traffic. The match-winner — her fifth goal of the tournament — came in the 65th minute, scoring after Alex Morgan sent a cross beyond and behind Sam Mewis, but perfect for the on-running Rapinoe.

The USWNT conceded just its second goal of the tournament in the 81st minute when Wendie Renard headed in a Gaëtane Thiney free kick , beating goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher and her mark, Julie Ertz. Regardless, the U.S. won 2-1 and advanced to the semifinals to face off against England.

England awaited the USA vs. France result after already booking its spot in the semis with a 3-0 victory over Norway. The Lionesses' Ellen White scored her fifth goal of the tournament in the match, tying her for top spot in the Golden Boot race with the United States' Rapinoe and Alex Morgan.

The U.S. has a 10-4-2 all-time record against England, most recently having played to a 2-2 draw in 2019 during the SheBelieves Cup.

It will be another highly anticipated match up as the both teams look to stake their claim as the best of the best.
