Walker Zimmerman is old reliable at this point.
The United States international remains one of the most reliable center backs in MLS, and he's now a free agent after his time with Nashville SC.
He led Nashville to the U.S. Open Cup title this season, but Zimmerman could look to move on.
The Athletic's Tom Bogert has named two teams as interested in Zimmerman: FC Dallas and Toronto FC.
"At 32 and at this stage of his career, the U.S. International is best in a team that defends a little bit deeper," Zimmerman writes. "FC Dallas and Toronto FC are two clubs who may be in the mix for Zimmerman, per sources briefed on the situation. Both need defensive upgrades, and Zimmerman’s impact on a team both on and off the field is hugely beneficial."
Zimmerman's career began in Dallas, where he helped win both the U.S. Open Cup and Supporters' Shield in 2016.
The big centerback has also played for LAFC before Nashville.
In the just completed MLS season, Nashville placed sixth in the Eastern Conference table with 54 points in 34 games.
The aforementioned Toronto FC was 12th with 32 points in 34 games to go with a negative-7 goal differential.
In the Western Conference, FC Dallas placed seventh with 44 points in 34 games despite a negative-3 goal differential.
Zimmerman could improve either of those teams, if that's the direction he chooses to go in free agency.
