Jose Mourinho is looking to guide Roma back into the Champions League as they face Sevilla in the Europa League final on Wednesday, May 31.

The Italian side have not been amongst Europe's elite teams since the 2018/19 season, when they were knocked out in the round of 16 by Porto after extra time.

Roma didn't qualify for the Champions League through their league finish after they have failed to win any of their last three matches, but winning the Europa League would automatically qualify them for the Champions League group stage.

The Sporting News looks at Jose Mourinho's managerial record in the UEFA Champions League.

Jose Mourinho Champions League trophies

The 60-year-old's defensive style of football has proven to be effective during the European finals, including the Champions League finale on two occasions.

After winning the UEFA Cup, now known as the Europa League, with Porto in 2003, Mourinho defied the odds to lead the Portuguese side to Champions League glory in the following season. He knocked out Manchester United and Lyon before beating Monaco in the final.

He then won the competition for a second time in 2010 with Inter Milan. Defeating Bayern in the final completed a treble for the Italian giants that season, something Pep Guardiola is looking to achieve with Manchester City this year.

Here is Mourinho's record in European finals:

Jose Mourinho Champions League record

Mourinho has managed Porto, Chelsea, Inter, Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Tottenham in the Champions League. Throughout that time, he has taken charge of 151 matches in the competition, winning 80 of those games and seeing his sides score 261 goals.

The Special One reached the semifinal stage of the Champions League six times during spells with Real Madrid and Chelsea. He was sacked by the Blues during the 2007/08 season, and they went on to lose the final against Manchester United under Avram Grant.

Jose Mourinho last Champions League final

Mourinho's last Champions League final was his victory with Inter back in 2010. He could not get past the semifinal stage with Real Madrid before struggling with Premier League clubs.

Argentine striker Diego Milito was the hero of the 2010 final, scoring twice in their 2-0 win over Bayern at Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid, Spain. It was an Inter side that featured the likes of Samuel Eto'o, Lucio and Javier Zanetti.

In typical Mourinho fashion, Inter soaked up the pressure from Bayern and scored twice on the counter-attack. He will be hoping to do the same with Roma in their Europa League final against Sevilla.
