Coventry City and Luton Town are set to go head to head in the EFL Championship playoff final for place in the Premier League.

Luton beat Tony Mowbray's Sunderland in the semifinals while Coventry knocked out Middlesbrough and Michael Carrick as they look to return to the English top-flight for the first time since 2001.

The Hatters, on the other hand, have never been in the Premier League since its inception in 1992, but have made their way up the English football pyramid in remarkable fashion since 2017.

The Sporting News looks at the key details ahead of the Championship playoff final between Coventry and Luton.

Coventry vs Luton predicted lineups

The key to Coventry's nine match unbeaten run has been their utilisation of an effective 3-5-2 formation.

Callum O'Hare will miss out with a knee injury while Kasey Palmer is sidelined with a muscle injury. Fabio Tavares has been out since January with a leg problem.

Coventry (3-5-2, right to left): Wilson (GK) — McNally, McFadzean, Doyle —  Norton-Cuffy, Allen, Kelly, Hamer, Bidwell — Gyokeres, Godden

  • Injured: O'Hare, Palmer, Tavares
  • Suspended: None

Luton are set to match Coventry with a 3-5-2 system of their own. They will also have an arguable advantage over their opponents as Rob Edwards boasts a fully fit squad to choose from.

Luton (3-5-2, right to left): Horvath (GK) — Osho, Lockyer, Bell — Drameh, Clark, Nakamba, Mpanzu, Doughty — Morris, Adebayo

Coventry vs Luton prediction, odds

Luton are narrow favourites to win promotion to the Premier League in the final. Although both fixtures in the league ended as a draw this season, Coventry have not beaten their opponents since 2017 – when they were both in League Two. Luton finished third in the regular Championship campaign, with Coventry 10 points further back in fifth.
