Newcastle United’s pursuit of a new striker has reached a point where resolution is needed, yet Eddie Howe’s team are still waiting for a breakthrough.
Wolves have reportedly turned down two approaches for Jorgen Strand Larsen, the first valued at £50m [$67m] and the second at £55m [$74m], which was rejected on Tuesday night only hours before the Norwegian scored twice in a 3-2 Carabao Cup win over West Ham.
That performance highlighted his growing importance to Wolves, who triggered a £23m [$30m] option on July 1 to sign him permanently from Celta Vigo after a loan season in which he produced 14 goals in 35 Premier League appearances
Larsen has already started both of Wolves’ league matches this season, making clear why the club has been reluctant to sanction his departure.
Manager Vitor Pereira addressed the speculation days earlier, stressing Larsen’s value while acknowledging the realities of the market.
"He's a very important player for us. I never talk with him about it. He's our player. When I watch him on the training, he's committed with everybody, committed with the team. He's a fighter. He likes to win,” Pereira said.

Pereira was further questioned on whether Wolves could afford to see a key player depart before the window shuts, and he said - “The market is the market. If the window is open, the players can come and the players can leave. I believe this is possible.”

Italian journalist Nicolo Schira has reported that Newcastle are now readying a £60m [$80m] offer, accompanied by a contract until 2030.

For Eddie Howe’s side, the urgency is growing, with Callum Wilson already departed , and Alexander Isak remains unavailable while interest from Liverpool lingers and a £40m [$53m] approach for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa has already been rejected.
Strand Larsen has become the clear focus, and the next few days will decide whether Wolves can hold their ground or Newcastle succeed in securing a striker they see as the long-term replacement for Wilson.
