Micah Richards showers praise on Chelsea star's all-round abilities image

Following Chelsea’s impressive 2-1 victory over Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday, most of the plaudits have gone to Moises Caicedo and Estevao Willian for their match-winning goals.

However, Micah Richards wants to ensure that another Blues player gets his share of credit on the back of a series of impressive performances for the club.

Enzo Fernandez has developed into one of Chelsea’s most reliable and important players since his move from Brighton and Hove Albion a couple of years ago.

With his drive and desire on the pitch, the Argentine has probably become one of the first names on the teamsheet for Enzo Maresca.

However, Fernandez’s importance to the team has skyrocketed in the absence of the injured Cole Palmer.

The injury to Palmer has forced Fernandez to take up the role of a creator in the team, and the World Cup winner has not disappointed, so it makes sense that Richards wants to give the player credit where it is due.

Having slipped into the number 10 role in the absence of Palmer, Fernandez has done a fine job over there.

The former Manchester City star took to the Rest is Football Podcast to give Fernandez his flowers.

“But it’s not just Caicedo. I’ve been impressed with Enzo Fernandez. The way he’s making runs into the box, he always seems to be there. World Cup winner, Enzo.”

Richards has been impressed with the versatility shown by the Chelsea midfielder, showing he can fill whatever role Maresca requires of him.

He continues: “But I mean, he’s got such confidence because there was a little bit of debate. People didn’t know quite what he was. Is he a holder? Is he a number eight? Is he a number 10?

“But he’s got a little bit of everything with real quality. And he’s a leader as well.”

While Fernandez may not be a flair player or a creative force, his professionalism and endeavour on the pitch make him an invaluable asset to the club.
