After an entire summer of being linked with a move away from Selhurst Park, Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi is set to be a man in demand in the January transfer window.

Guehi, who left Chelsea for Palace in 2021, has entered the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park.

It means that the Eagles could be forced to sell him on the cheap in January to avoid losing the centre-back on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Chelsea are set to receive a 20% cut if Palace sells their star player, thanks to a sell-on clause in his contract.

In the recently concluded transfer window, Chelsea thought of re-signing Guehi from Palace but eventually did not make a move for the player.

Now, the Blues have made up their mind about whether or not to re-sign the English international in the upcoming winter transfer window.

Chelsea refuse to make Marc Guehi a top target in the January transfer window

Based on reports, it is also unlikely that Chelsea will make an offer for Guehi when the market reopens in January.

According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea have decided that the England international will not be a top target in the winter transfer window.

The same outlet claims that Enzo Maresca still has concerns about his central defence, which follows Levi Colwill’s ACL injury, but it does not look like the Club World Cup winners view Guehi as the solution.

Colwill is not Maresca’s only problem at the moment, as he is also without Dario Essugo after he picked up an injury while on international duty with Portugal’s Under-21 side.

Though Chelsea do not plan to make a move for Guehi in January, they do plan to bring in another central defender.

The same report also suggests that the chances of the Blues signing another central defender in January are not being ruled out.

Until then, Maresca will have to make do with Wesley Fofana, Tosin Adarabioyo, Trevoh Chalobah and Benoit Badiashile.

Additionally, youngsters Josh Acheampong and Jorrel Hato can also play in central defence.
