The Rangers are a team that will have high expectations placed on them this upcoming 25-26 campaign as the club will be expected to compete for postseason contention.
New York is coming off of a disappointing 24-25 year that saw the team miss the playoffs for the first time since the 2021 season. With a new coaching staff led by Penguins legendary bench boss Mike Sullivan, a similar result this year won't be tolerated by Rangers management.
Rangers players will likely be given a short leash this year as the team will be aggressive in avoiding a repeat of last year that saw a plethora of Blueshirts underperform.
Trio of Rangers possible future trade pieces
Nestor Quixtan of Heavy Sports has identified 3 potential players that could be dealt by New York in the future, depending on how this season plays out.
Jusso Parssinen
Parssinen was recently acquired by the Rangers during last year's NHL trade deadline from the Colorado Avalanche. He will have an opportunity to assert himself this season in a bottom 6 center role. As an unproven forward, New York will likely only give Parssinen so much leeway if he struggles and they feel a change is necessary.
Carson Soucy
Like Parssinen, Soucy was recently acquired by New York in the 2025 NHL trade deadline. He will have a chance to earn a top 6 role on the Rangers blueline full time this year. But similar to Parssinen, if Soucy does not deliver his time in Manhattan could be short.
Matt Rempe
Rempe is a player who never shines away from the Broadway stage. The enforcer is one of the last remaining old school players left in the game, a dying breed. With that being said as much as his fights energize the fanbase, it's questionable how much value he provides on the ice. Rempe will likely have to round out his game if he is to last in New York.
