The Dallas Cowboys haven’t had the smoothest time lately when it comes to signing one of the NFL’s best defensive players. Micah Parsons is among the league’s top pass rushers, but team owner Jerry Jones recently tried negotiating a contract extension with him—without involving his agent.

“The fact that Jerry Jones and the Cowboys believe they can negotiate a 9-figure extension with Micah Parsons without involving his agent says everything about the current state of the franchise. This entire situation is laughable from the Dallas side. It could’ve — and should’ve — been avoided. But instead, the Cowboys operated with pure arrogance, foolishness and stubbornness,” NFL insider Jordan Schultz posted.

Jones’ approach led to clear frustration from Parsons, who ultimately responded with a shocking move, a trade request.

“Still I stayed quiet but again after repeated shots at myself and all the narratives I have made a tough decision I no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys. My trade request has been submitted to Stephen Jones personally,” Parsons posted.

Despite the public fallout, Jerry Jones remained calm when addressing the situation with fans:

“Don't lose any sleep over it. That's one thing I would say to our fans: don't lose any sleep,” Jones told the media.

Still, the tension has opened the door to potential suitors around the league. According to Pro Football Network’s Jacob Infante, one team to watch is the Washington Commanders.

“They have a massive need for pass rushers, and they have the resources to pay Parsons. As of this writing, they’re slated to have the fifth-most cap space in the NFL in 2026. They dealt their 2026 second- and fourth-round picks to Houston for Laremy Tunsil, but an elite player at a premium position is worth giving up additional draft capital for,” Infante wrote.

The Commanders recently brought in Von Miller, but he’s viewed as more of a short-term solution. With the cap space to absorb a major deal, Washington could potentially lock down Parsons for years to come.
