The Tennessee Titans drafted former Miami QB Cam Ward with the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft.

While the buzz around the Titans rookie has been quiet all offseason, most NFL media members and fans assume Ward will be taking the field as the starter for Week 1 of the regular season.

In a weak quarterback class for 2025, it’s easy to see why the Titans opted to stick with the No. 1 pick —despite trade offers from other trams to move up — and select Ward as their future franchise QB.

In 2024 for the Hurricanes Ward finished with 4,313 passing yards, 39 passing touchdowns, and just seven interceptions. He added another 204 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns with his legs.

Ward was named ACC Player of the Year and earned the Davey O’Brien Award, Manning Award, as well as being a first-team All-American and Heisman finalist.

In his five years of college which included stops at Incarnate Word and Washington State before Miami Ward played in 57 games. He finished his college career with 1,515 completions on 2,329 attempts (65.0%), 18,137 passing yards, 158 passing touchdowns, 37 interceptions and 469 rushes for 402 yards and 20 rushing scores.

The Tennessee Titans are banking on Ward thriving immediately in the NFL and spent the offseason trying to put weapons around him to succeed.

Last year, the Titans turned to Will Levis as their starting QB —and while the former Kentucky gun slinger showed promise at times — he finished the year with 2,091 passing yards, 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. The Titans won just three games with Levis as the starter which is why they had the No. 1 overall pick in the draft.

While the assumption since the NFL Draft has been that Ward will be the starter for the Titans in 2025, there hasn’t been an official announcement as of yet.

Now, the Titans better hope Ward adjusts to the NFL game quickly, because on Monday, news out of Tennessee left him as the only option. The Titans posted on their official social media accounts that Levis will be sidelined the entire 2025 season due to a decision to get shoulder surgery from an injury last year.

It’s all up to Ward now. Behind him are veterans Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle but it’s safe to say the rookie is the clear frontrunner to start for the Titans.
