The NFL never sleeps during training camp, and Saturday delivered a fresh round of big contracts, shocking practice injuries, unexpected leadership roles, and strategic signings across the league.
Broncos make Zach Allen a $102 Million Man
The Denver Broncos have officially locked up one of their top defensive players. The team signed defensive lineman Zach Allen to a four-year, $102 million extension, per Adam Schefter. It’s a massive raise for Allen, who originally signed with Denver in 2023 on a three-year, $45.75 million deal.
Allen, who had 8.5 sacks and 40 quarterback hits last season, deserved that $69 million guaranteed.
With this extension, Denver continues to lock down its core pieces in the Mile High City, spending almost 200 million this week between Cortland Sutton and Allen.
Tua Tagovailoa given 'Executive Orders' by President Trump
In an interview with Tom Pelissero at Dolphins training camp, coach Mike McDaniels had this to say about his QB staying healthy this season:
“If I was concerned about how seriously (Tua) was taking his part in staying healthy, I think he got an executive order last night to stay healthy.”
Tua’s leadership has even caught the attention of President Donald Trump, who included him on his Council of Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition.
Bucs still without Baker Mayfield
In Tampa Bay, quarterback Baker Mayfield was once again held out of practice due to the hand injury he sustained earlier this week after hitting it on a defender’s shoulder pad during drills.
According to Scott Reynolds, Mayfield remains day-to-day and is being kept out as a precaution.
With the season drawing closer, the Bucs are hoping to get their starter back soon to continue building chemistry with new weapon Emeka Egbuka and continuing to make the offense better.
Cowboys set to reunite with La’el Collins
In Dallas, the Cowboys are turning to an old friend to help stabilize their offensive line. The team is expected to re-sign veteran tackle La’el Collins, who last played for the Cowboys in 2021, per Ian Rapoport.
This move comes in response to Tyler Guyton’s recent injury, which created a pressing need for depth at the tackle position.
Collins, 32, is familiar with the Cowboys’ blocking schemes and brings both experience and versatility as Dallas looks to protect Dak Prescott and bolster their run game.
