Bucs’ giant gamble: Why Desmond Watson needs real reps, not sideline laps, in Tampa image

Desmond Watson’s signing after the 2025 NFL draft was supposed to add a mountain of strength next to Vita Vea, giving Tampa a twin-towers-like defensive line.

Instead, fans watched him jog laps in the brutal Tampa heat while teammates practiced in full pads.

There is no official weight limit for being in the NFL, and these reps he’s losing are invaluable, not just for honing his technique, but for abusing his sheer size and creating cohesion.

If conditioning was the goal, then putting him in pads and letting him practice would naturally shed weight.

Let him be a BDD – that’s Big Damn Dude – we used to applaud players like Shaun Rogers, Ted Washington. Yet still love players today like Mehkai Beckton, Daniel Faalele, Dawad Jones. Jordan Davis.

We all know the NFL has exaggerated about height before. Do you truly believe they wouldn’t lie about weight?

Now Tampa is risking wasting a roster spot or worse, missing out on a unique weapon in the trenches. You can’t tell me that you haven’t seen the video clip of Watson getting the hand off at Florida. Tampa could potentially use him in a sudo tush-push type play, tell me who is big enough to stop that.

And besides, seeing that video of Desmond working out on the sidelines was probably the saddest thing I’ve ever seen in the NFL.
