The San Francisco 49ers are reportedly set to be without star defensive end Nick Bosa for the rest of the season.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Bosa is believed to have suffered a torn ACL in the Week 3 win over the Arizona Cardinals, which would obviously end his season.
This is not the first ACL tear Bosa has dealt with during his NFL career, as he had the same injury in his right knee in 2020. Bosa's current ACL tear is in his left knee.
The Athletic's Dianna Russini added that no other ligaments were "damaged or stretched," so Bosa will have "a clean surgery and recovery."
Bosa exited the game in the first quarter with the knee injury and was clearly in pain. In what was a bad sign at the time, Bosa gave fans a thumbs down as he was leaving the field.
After the game, head coach Kyle Shanahan said initial tests didn't show an ACL injury, but he did express concern because of how Bosa felt physically.
"There is concern because of how he feels," Shanahan said. "Hopefully we'll have some good news tomorrow."
This is obviously a devastating blow for the Niners, a team that has, per usual, been absolutely snake-bitten by injuries this season. Bosa entered Sunday as the team's sacks leader.
Bosa inked a five-year, $170 million contract extension with the Niners in 2023. He remains under contract through 2028.
