The San Francisco 49ers, down a huge chunk of their starting offense, beat the Los Angeles Rams in Los Angeles in Week 5 on Thursday Night Football. It was an incredible win for the 49ers, and in the process, a lot was learned about the team.

But one of the main takeaways from this win over the Rams was the incredible play of Eddy Pineiro. He came through in the clutch, hitting the game-winning field goal for the 49ers while also hitting three other field goals, including a career-best 59-yarder.

After his incredible performance, the National Football League announced some deserving news for Pineiro.

Eddy Pineiro named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for 49ers heroics

The NFL announced that Pineiro was the week 5 NFC Special Teams Player of the Week. This is the fourth time he's earned a Special Teams Player of the Week award in his career, and his first with the 49ers.

Pineiro hit the game-winning 41-yarder in overtime, while hitting through two extra points and adding on three other field goals to round out a 14-point performance in primetime against a division rival.

His performance was a huge one for the 49ers, as they've faced kicking trouble in recent years with Jake Moody. They moved on from his early this season, and Pineiro came in, missed his first kick, and since then, has been incredible for the 49ers.

What made his Thursday Night performance that much better was that the 49ers were down Brock Purdy, Ricky Pearsall, Jauan Jennings, and George Kittle on offense. Brandon Ayiuk also hasn't suited up, so the 49ers were severely understaffed for the short week.

But Mac Jones, Kendrick Bourne, and Pineiro led the 49ers to an impressive win over the Rams on Thursday Night Football. He kicked two extra points and four field goals, accounting for 14 of the 49ers' 26 points in a thrilling overtime win.

Pineiro has been a revelation for the 49ers. He hasn't missed a field goal, and he's been a huge reason why the team is 4-1, leading the NFC West, and looking to be a top Super Bowl contender despite all of the injuries sustained this season.

The 30-year-old journeyman veteran kicker has found a new home in San Francisco, and with how well he's kicked this season, the 49ers might've finally found their new long-term kicker.
