Are the 49ers cutting Jake Moody? Kicker struggles bring Greg Joseph into the San Francisco picture image

There was a time when Jake Moody seemed like one of the most promising young kickers in the NFL.

It's no longer that time for the San Francisco 49ers' placekicker.

He's in a nightmare of a rut, and it doesn't seem to be getting better.

"Since Week 10 of last season, kicker Jake Moody has made 12 of 23 field goal tries, a 52% rate that is more than 11% lower than all other kickers who have attempted at least 10 field goals across that span," ESPN's Nick Wagoner wrote. "On Sunday, he missed from 27 yards in the first half then had a 36-yarder blocked in the second half, making him the first San Francisco kicker to have two misses inside 40 yards in a game since 2006."

49ers fans are certainly fed up with it. Even Richard Sherman expressed his disbelief in a post on X:

So what now?

Are the 49ers cutting Jake Moody?

As of about 11 a.m. ET (8 a.m. PT) on Monday, Moody was still with the 49ers.

It's not clear how long that'll be the case.

Teams often like to do kicker workouts early in the week before making any moves, so maybe reports will emerge of San Francisco bringing a couple guys in before proceeding.

The 49ers did have Greg Joseph with them for some of the summer, and he's a reliable veteran.

It definitely seems like something has to give.

"The Niners have had more than enough patience with Moody, so it's fair to wonder -- again -- if that patience has run its course," Wagoner wrote.
