49ers, QB Brock Purdy agree to mammoth $265 million extension: Report image

The San Francisco 49ers and quarterback Brock Purdy reached agreement on a monumental contract extension on Friday afternoon.

After playing out the first three seasons of his NFL career for a mere $2.85 million in total, Purdy became eligible to sign an extension for the first time this offseason. And suffice it to say that he's come a long way from being the very last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

According to multiple reports, the 49ers and Purdy are in agreement on a five-year, $265 million extension, including $181 million in total guaranteed money.

ESPN's Adam Schefter was the first to report the news of the extension.

Purdy is now tied for the NFL's seventh-highest-paid quarterback on a per-year basis with Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions. The $265 million total is the fifth-highest in league history, behind Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, and Trevor Lawrence.

Purdy, 25, has led the 49ers to a 23-13 regular season record and a Super Bowl LVIII appearance in his three seasons thus far. His best year was 2023, when he led the league with a 113.0 passer rating and finished fourth in Most Valuable Player voting.

The 49ers lost a lot of talent this offseason, including longtime star wideout Deebo Samuel and a handful of Pro Bowl-caliber defenders. They're hoping Purdy can prove he's capable of carrying the roster now instead of blending in with a well-oiled machine.

After a 6-11 season and last-place finish in the NFC West, the 49ers certainly have their work cut out for them, and their future payroll looks a lot less flexible.
