A lot of drama has filled the San Francisco 49ers' organization in the past couple of weeks after the new contract details on wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk's deal went public.
It was announced that the 49ers voided the roughly $27 million of Aiyuk's contract due to his not meeting team obligations on the deal.
With this taking place, the hope of the wide receiver returning this season has gone sour. There's still a chance, but if he returns, more drama can take place on the field. 49ers general manager John Lynch weighed in on the situation.
GM John Lynch still has hope that Brandon Aiyuk returns in 2025
49ers' general manager John Lynch addressed the situation with Brian Murphy and Markus Boucher of KNBR.
"Realistic, I'm not sure. Hopeful, yeah. I think that's where I'd leave that... We're a better football team when Brandon (Aiyuk) is out there, but that's probably what it is, hope right now," Lynch said.
John Lynch isn't sure about the situation, but the wide receiver's return would most likely benefit the 49ers in their playoff hopes.
At 9-4, the 49ers currently occupy the seventh and final spot in the NFC playoffs. A division title remains within reach, but the NFC West is the league's winningest division. Both the Los Angeles Rams (9-3) and Seattle Seahawks (9-3) sit ahead of them in the standings with four weeks to go.
