The Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets will square off at MetLife Stadium on Sunday to open their respective seasons. On the final injury reports of both teams, there's a total of three players ruled out and three questionable for the Week 1 game.
Pittsburgh's injury report is headlined by rookie defensive lineman Derrick Harmon, who has been ruled out with a knee injury he suffered in the final preseason game. Harmon is considered week-to-week.
The two players listed as questionable for the Steelers are outside linebacker Nick Herbig and quarterback Skylar Thompson, who was a new addition to the injury report on Friday. Herbig got banged-up in the second preseason game and only practiced in a limited fashion throughout the week.
Steelers star defensive lineman Cameron Heyward was also listed on the injury report this week, but for rest purposes. However, the veteran has yet to fully confirm whether or not he's going to play amid a contract dispute.
"All I can tell you is I've had to have a lot of tough conversations with my family, and I am bracing for everything," he said.
In New York, the Jets won't have right guard Alijah Vera-Tucker, who is out for the season after suffering a torn triceps, head coach Aaron Glenn confirmed. New York will likely slide Joe Tippmann over to guard and start Josh Myers at center.
The Jets have injury concerns with a pair of backup offensive linemen, as former Steelers tackle Chukwuma Okorafor is questionable and fellow tackle Esa Pole is out.
Meanwhile, players such as quarterback Tyrod Taylor and cornerback Sauce Gardner were removed from the injury report on Friday and are good to go.
