The Pittsburgh Steelers did it. Well, actually, Aaron Rodgers did it by agreeing to sign a one-year deal to play in Pittsburgh in 2025.
The addition of Rodgers has earned several grades from various experts, but only time will tell if this move works out for the Steelers or not.
In turn, having Rodgers at the QB position is a big boost for the offense. This offseason, they acquired Seattle Seahawks WR DK Metcalf, and he instantly becomes the team's WR1 in a new-look offense that also saw Najee Harris leave and George Pickens get traded to the Dallas Cowboys.
But, the Rodgers and Metcalf duo might not be the best fit, as ESPN's Ben Solak gave them a worrisome label.
Rodgers is also an uncertain fit with Metcalf. The ex-Seahawk is one of the less precise route runners in the NFL, and Rodgers famously demands perfection from his receivers as they run his hand-selected variety of highly specific routes. It's hard to imagine a 17-game season in which there is no sideline or postgame blowup between Rodgers and his top pass catcher.
There is no denying that Metcalf is a talented receiver. In his NFL career, he has 438 catches for 6,324 yards with 48 touchdowns and three 1,000-yard seasons and three 900-yard seasons.
But, the fit with Rodgers at QB has Solak a bit worried, and rightfully so. Plus, the two could clash, especially given the way both players have been in the past.
It could be an interesting situation to monitor in Pittsburgh between the team's new QB-WR duo.
