The Philadelphia Eagles don’t like the team to beat anymore. They’ve dropped three consecutive games, all while failing to score at least 22 points in their past five contests. Their offense has regressed tremendously with Kevin Patullo at the helm, and their last two wins came against teams that scored seven and nine points, respectively.
Clearly, something has to change. They haven’t been the same dominant and explosive team on the ground as they were in Saquon Barkley’s first year in town, and some of that has had to do with their offensive line.
That’s why NFL legend Troy Aikman had an interesting take on what the Eagles should do. Talking on Monday Night Football, the former quarterback urged them to bring Jason Kelce back from retirement.
Troy Aikman says Jason Kelce should return for the Eagles
"I would be surprised if they haven't already (called Kelce) at some point this year," Aikman said, per Awful Announcing. "Even last year, I think I'd be knocking on his door every week to get him to come back. He could still do it."
Kelce is probably the best center of his generation and one of the greatest -- if not the greatest -- to ever do it. Then again, he’s been away from the game since 2024, and while that’s not that much time, he seems much slimmer than he was during his playing days.
Kelce was one of Cam Jurgens’ biggest advocates, taking him under his wing and mentoring him to make him the center of the future. That hasn’t worked out in the way the team hoped for, as his Pro Football Focus grade of 63.1 ranks 21st among 38 eligible centers. He’s pretty solid in run blocking (67.9), but he has struggled mightily in pass protection (54.3, the ninth-worst in the league).
Kelce was the quarterback of the offensive line. He shut down everything in the interior, and he was instrumental in making their now-infamous ‘Tush Push’ work like a charm in almost every attempt. Those days seem long gone, and the Eagles’ offense has been a talking point for all the wrong reasons.
All in all, there might not even be enough time for Kelce to get back up to speed, even if he were interested in making a comeback. He will forever be welcome and beloved in the City of Brotherly Love, but that doesn’t sound realistic right now. Then again, if Philip Rivers did it…
