The NFL has finally decided what punishment it will give out to Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter.
Carter spat on Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Carter before the start of the Eagles/Cowboys game last Thursday night.
Carter was immediately kicked out of the game before the first snap. NBC cameras caught Prescott spitting at the ground near the Eagles' huddle, which prompted Carter to spit on Prescott.
According to Adam Schefter, Carter will only suffer a fine from the NFL.
"NFL is fining Eagles DT Jalen Carter $57,222 for spitting on Dak Prescott. The league also says the game he was ejected for will serve as a one-game suspension. “After talking to the Eagles, the NFL and the NFLPA, Jalen has decided not to appeal and focus on the Chiefs game,” said Carter’s agent Drew Rosenhaus."
Prescott says Carter was picking on Cowboys offensive rookie lineman Tyler Booker, which is why he spoke up.
“He was tolling, I guess you could say, trying to mess with Tyler Booker,” Prescott said. “I was just looking at him. I was right here about the two linemen, and I guess I needed to spit, and I wasn’t gonna spit on my linemen. I just spit ahead… And he asked, or he goes, you trying to spit on me? At that point, I mean, I felt like, like, oh, like he was insulting me. I wouldn’t spit on somebody. I’m damn sure not trying to spit on you. Like, we’re about to play a game, wondering why you are trying to mess with the rookie.”
Booker played at Alabama, and Carter at Georgia, so you have to wonder if this goes back to their SEC playing days.
Carter would later apologize to Eagles fans and teammates for his bad behavior and promised it would never happen again.
Carter will be available for the Eagles for their Super Bowl rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs next Sunday afternoon.
