The Philadelphia Eagles have two major needs to address on the defensive side of the ball and one of them comes at cornerback.
While Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean are two very good young players, there is a major hole at the other boundary spot.
Kelee Ringo and Adoree' Jackson have proven time and time again they are not the answer and the jury is still out on Jakorian Bennett, who is on injured reserve.
Knowing that, Sportsnaut's Matt Johnson is predicting the Eagles will pull off a trade with the Miami Dolphins for cornerback Rasul Douglas. Here's the trade Johnson proposes, along with his thoughts on it:
- Miami Dolphins trade: Rasul Douglas
- Philadelphia Eagles trade: 2026 sixth-round pick, 2027 fifth-round pick
Entering Week 7, Kelee Ringo (15.2 yards per completion allowed) continues to struggle in coverage, and veteran Adoree Jackson (193 receiving yards allowed in five games) hasn’t been any better. Rasul Douglas has been a lone bright spot in Miami’s secondary this season, and he has minimal help around him. In Philadelphia, Douglas would fill in perfectly as the No. 2 corner with Quinyon Mitchell lined up against No. 1 receivers and Cooper DeJean manning the nickel.
Douglas is already quite familiar with Philly, as he spent the first three season of his career there. He is currently starting in Miami, although the Dolphins will likely be amenable to moving him with their season in the gutter.
Unfortunately, his coverage numbers this season don't spell a definite fix.
Douglas has given up a completion rate of 66.7% and a passer rating of 111.0 when targeted through six games. That is a higher completion rate and passer rating than both Jackson and Ringo.
With Super Bowl aspirations, the Eagles need to do better than Douglas. That said, if it's between nothing and Douglas, it makes sense to take a chance on the veteran, although not for as much as Johnson suggests a trade for him will cost.
