On Wednesday, Philadelphia Eagles coach Nick Sirianni sent a clear message regarding the possibility of bringing safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson back to the roster.
Asked directly about interest in re-signing Gardner-Johnson, who was released by the Houston Texans after a short stint on Tuesday, Sirianni expressed confidence in the current safety group.
“I’m really excited about the room we have,” Sirianni said, per Eagles reporter Brandon Lee Gowton. “I think they've done a really nice job to date. Got a good young player in Andrew Mukuba, who continues to get better. I think having Reed [Blankenship] next to him is helping him get better. And just as how Reed got better having Marcus Epps in the building, and Reed's said that, I’ve said that in here before about Marcus Epps.
“So, just really excited about that room. Sydney [Brown]'s doing a really good job. Doing a good job on special teams and doing some work on defense as well. I’m really excited about that group and pleased with that group.”
Gardner-Johnson had two stints with the Eagles, including the 2024 season when Philadelphia won the Super Bowl. Despite his strong play, concerns about his attitude have made him a journeyman in recent years.
