Devonta Smith injury update: Eagles WR goes straight to medical tent after hard fall image

The Super Bowl rematch between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs was tied early in the third quarter when Jalen Hurts lofted a pass down the left sideline toward Devonta Smith.

The "Slim Reaper" rose up to try to make the catch but couldn't quite bring it down.

And as Smith came to the ground, he landed hard, really hard, on his lower back.

Smith stayed down, and he was in some obvious immediate pain.

Devonta Smith injury update

After Smith hit the ground hard, potentially on his tailbone, he went straight to the medical tent.

The Eagles were kicking a field goal on the next play, so it wasn't immediately obvious how long Smith would be out.

Soon after, though, Smith returned to the bench with the other WRs.

Smith is one part of the two-headed WR monster for Philly, which was already without tight end Dallas Goedert due to injury for the entirety of Sunday's game.

Without Smith, if he has to miss time, Jahan Dotson would step into a bigger role. Behind A.J. Brown and Dotson is a guy like John Metchie III, a trade acquisition from the Texans over the summer.

There's a chance Smith just had the wind knocked out of him, but a trip to the medical tent seemed like a less-than-ideal sign.
