Should I drop Aaron Jones in fantasy? Vikings RB injury outlook combines with Jordan Mason confusion image

Aaron Jones was one of the best running backs in the NFL last season, and with that, one of the best RBs to have in fantasy football.

This season, though, is off to a less than ideal start. He’s stuck in a timeshare with Jordan Mason, and now he’s injured.

Jones appears unlikely to play in Week 3 as things stand, which has fantasy managers wondering if he’s someone they should drop.

The Mason thing only complicates it. The Vikings brought in the former 49ers running back to ease the burden on Jones after Jones had more touches in 2024 than he ever had in a season with the Packers.

Running back doesn’t seem to be a position to be too rash with, though.

Should I drop Aaron Jones in fantasy football?

No, don’t drop Aaron Jones from your fantasy team, at least not yet.

If news came out that Jones was out for a month or more, that’d change the answer here. But only a week or two out from Jones is not enough to discard him.

He’s still a talented back who is heavily involved in the passing game and can still get it done on the ground, too. And RB is not a deep enough position to get rid of a guy like Jones who can be a FLEX play even in the timeshare.

And if Mason turned around and got hurt himself, Jones would move right back to the border of RB2/RB1 territory.

Jones is a hold for now. And if your league allows players ruled out to go into an IR spot, keep an eye on Jones’ official injury status later in the week to potentially take advantage of that roster setup.
