How old is Patrick Mahomes? Chiefs QB can join Tom Brady with second Super Bowl win at age 27 image

Patrick Mahomes II is halfway there on what could be the best week of his six-year NFL career.

The Chiefs quarterback won his second Associated Press NFL MVP award Thursday at NFL Honors. He can win a second championship with Kansas City in Super Bowl 57 against the Eagles at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., on Sunday.

That would put Mahomes, who passed for 5,250 yards and 41 touchdowns in 2022, in an exclusive group of quarterbacks who have won two AP NFL MVP awards and two Super Bowl championships – a list that includes Joe Montana, Tom Brady and Peyton Manning.

That is how remarkable Mahomes has been with the Chiefs, and a scary thought for the rest of the NFL given he has played in five AFC championship games and three Super Bowls.

Here is a closer look at Mahomes' age and accomplishments through six seasons with Kansas City:

How old is Patrick Mahomes?

Mahomes turned 27 on Sept. 17, 2022. He has played six seasons with the Chiefs since being selected by the team with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts is 24.

Patrick Mahomes statistics

Mahomes has the highest career passer rating in NFL history at 105.7. He's 64-16 as a starter in six NFL seasons – and that .800 winning percentage is the highest for a starting quarterback with at least 50 starts.

Mahomes has passed for 24,241 yards, 192 touchdowns and 49 interceptions in those seasons.

Patrick Mahomes' postseason record

Mahomes is 10-3 in the postseason, and he's now tied for second with Joe Flacco among active NFL quarterbacks in playoff victories. Aaron Rodgers has 12. Brady retired with 35 postseason victories, which is the most among NFL QBs all time.

Eleven quarterbacks have at least 11 playoff wins, an elite list that includes seven members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Brady, Roethlisberger and Rodgers will join that list of Hall of Famers in the future. Is it too early to say the same for Mahomes?

Patrick Mahomes and two-time Super Bowl-winning QBs

Mahomes had a chance to become the youngest quarterback to win two Super Bowls two years ago, a record Brady set when he led the Patriots to a victory against the Panthers in Super Bowl 38 at age 26.

If the Chiefs beat the Eagles in Super Bowl 57, then Mahomes would be the 13th quarterback to win multiple Super Bowls as a starter. Here are the other those 12 quarterbacks and their age when they won their second Super Bowl.

Mahomes would be the fourth-youngest to win a second Super Bowl behind Brady, Roethlisberger and Aikman.

Patrick Mahomes and two-time MVPs

Mahomes won his second AP NFL MVP award on Thursday. He became the 10th player in NFL history with two MVP awards.

He's also the third-youngest player to win multiple awards. Jim Brown was 22 when he won his second NFL MVP award with the Browns after the 1958 season.

The list of NFL players with multiple MVPs and how old they were when they won their second:

Brett Favre was the youngest QB to win a second NFL MVP award when he did it during the 1996 season with the Packers. Favre was 27 that year, too, but his birthday falls a month later than Mahomes.

Patrick Mahomes and QBs who won MVP and the Super Bowl in the same year

Six quarterbacks have won AP NFL MVP and the Super Bowl in the same season: Starr (1966), Bradshaw (1978), Montana (1989), Young (1994), Favre (1996) and Warner (1999).

The fact it hasn’t happened in 23 years speaks to how difficult it is to do it.

QBs with two Super Bowls and two MVPs

Only three quarterbacks have won multiple NFL MVP awards and multiple Super Bowls, and that list consists of the three quarterbacks who are most often discussed in the GOAT conversations.

Brady won seven Super Bowls and three NFL MVP awards; Manning won two Super Bowls and five MVP awards; Montana won four Super Bowls and two MVP awards with the 49ers.

If Mahomes can win a second Super Bowl at 27, then it’s fair to drop him in those conversations given how much time he has left in his career. That is what is at stake for him in Super Bowl 57.
