The Lions’ push for the playoffs continues as they head to Charlotte to take on the Panthers in Week 16.

Detroit has turned its season around in stunning fashion, winning six of its past seven games to surge back into postseason contention. The team was sitting at 1-6 and near the bottom of the NFL standings less than two months ago. Now, it’s just a half-game behind Washington for the third and final NFC wild-card spot.

Dan Campbell’s squad has been playing inspired football lately. Last time out, a 51-yard touchdown pass from Jared Goff to Brock Wright in the final minutes gave the Lions a crucial win over the Jets. Detroit’s offense has been potent all season and remains in the NFL’s top five in total yards per game.

The Panthers’ postseason hopes took a big hit last week after a home loss to the lowly Steelers. The team’s defense allowed Pittsburgh to run the ball effectively all afternoon, ultimately giving up 156 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

However, Carolina remarkably still controls its own playoff destiny. If the team can win its final three games — against Detroit, Tampa Bay and New Orleans — it will win the NFC South with an 8-9 record.

Interim head coach Steve Wilks doesn’t want anyone getting ahead of themselves, though.

“We’ve got to worry about trying to get ourselves right to win a football game,” he said. “I don’t want anybody in this building talking playoffs.”
