After an ill-fated two-year tenure in New York, Aaron Rodgers returns to MetLife Stadium to lead the Steelers against the Jets in a much-anticipated season opener.
Rodgers arrived at the Meadowlands just over two years ago as the savior, expected to spur the Jets to the playoffs for the first time since the 2010-11 season — the longest active postseason drought in the league. But, in between a torn Achilles tendon, Rodgers went just 6-12 as the team's starting quarterback.
Now, Rodgers, 41, is QB1 in Pittsburgh, where he teams up with former Seahawks receiver DK Metcalf to lead what could be a vastly improved offense.
Meanwhile, the Jets enter the year with a new quarterback, too: former Steelers headman Justin Fields, who brings a dual-threat element to the field that Rodgers did not. This game also marks the official start to Aaron Glenn's first season as Jets head coach, as the former Lions defensive coordinator takes the reins.
The last time the Jets began a season at home, Rodgers was leading the team triumphantly out of the tunnel. Now, he'll look to play spoiler on the other sideline.
