Is Darnell Washington playing tonight? Why Steelers TE is off to quiet start in Week 7 image

A former third-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2023, tight end Darnell Washington has begun ascending in recent weeks.

Washington didn't do much over his first two seasons in the NFL, but he has seen his role increase in recent weeks and posted the best game of his career in Week 6 with three catches for 62 yards.

However, Washington has been nowhere to be found early on in the Week 7 game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Here's a closer look at what's up.

Is Darnell Washington playing tonight?

UPDATE: Washington still has his first catch of the game in the third quarter.

However, it went for -8 yards.

END OF UPDATE

UPDATE: Washington still hasn't gotten involved in the passing game over three drives.

However, he has played plenty of snaps but is serving as a blocker on most plays. He was also featured in a tush push, where he was lined up behind the ball carrier. Unfortunately, he doesn't get fantasy points for that.

END OF UPDATE

Yes, Washington is active on Thursday night but hasn't been targeted over the first three drives. Instead, the Steelers have been using him mostly as a blocker.

The Steelers have a crowded situation at tight end with Washington, Jonnu Smith and Pat Freiermuth, so there's no guarantee Washington will get going.
