The Broncos overcame a barrier last season, as they ended an eight-year drought by making the NFL Playoffs.
After the Russell Wilson gamble fell flat, Denver turned the page in 2024 with rookie signal-caller Bo Nix. Many analysts labeled the pick a stretch, he was the sixth quarterback off the board, but head coach Sean Payton viewed him as a perfect fit for his scheme.
The early growing pains were evident, yet Nix soon hit his stride, guiding Denver to the playoffs while piloting an offense that finished 10th in scoring. Though they suffered a 31-7 wildcard loss to the Bills, Denver will arrive into 2025 buoyed by their first postseason appearance since 2016.
Still, the road to an AFC West title inevitably runs through Kansas City. For Denver to truly challenge the reigning champs, Nix must sidestep the notorious sophomore slump that has derailed so many young quarterbacks, most recently Houston’s C.J. Stroud.
Helping the cause are two key offensive reinforcements: veteran tight end Evan Engram, who provides a reliable complement to top wideout Courtland Sutton, and a revamped ground game.
The backfield overhaul brought in rookie RJ Harvey and free-agent pickup J.K. Dobbins, both of whom should bolster a rushing attack that ranked just 21st in yards per carry last season despite one of the league’s premier offensive lines.
