With backup quarterback Andy Dalton dealing with injuries, the Carolina Panthers turned to a former New York Jets quarterback as their new backup.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Carolina is signing Mike White, the former Jets folk hero who won a handful of games throughout the lowly Zach Wilson era.

"With Andy Dalton dealing with a thumb injury, the Panthers signed quarterback Mike White to their active roster," Schefter wrote on X.

White's status as a folk hero with the Jets started on Halloween 2021, when the Jets took on Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals at home.

The Western Kentucky product started in place of the injured Zach Wilson, and carved the Bengals up to the tune of 405 yards, completing 37 of 45 pass attempts and tossing three touchdowns to two interceptions.

For his efforts in the comeback win, White's jersey was sent to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, where it's still on display to this day.

He was the second quarterback to throw for 400+ yards in his debut in NFL history.

Over seven career starts with the Jets, White went 2-5, completing 62.2% of his passes for 2145 yards, eight touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.

White has since bounced around as a backup in the league, serving stints with the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills.

So far this season, the 30-year-old has bounced around from practice squads, spending time with the San Francisco 49ers and Bengals.
