Jets catch huge break in Week 2 matchup against Bills image

After a heartbreaking loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers last Sunday, it seemed like the New York Jets were headed for an 0-2 start as they are set to welcome the dominant Buffalo Bills to MetLife Stadium this week. The Bills are fresh off an incredible 41-40 victory over the Baltimore Ravens and look unstoppable, certainly against a rebuilding team like the Jets.

This is still a tough game, even if one former NFL player predicts that the Jets will upset the Bills, but it just got a little bit easier for Gang Green. Renowned defensive tackle Ed Oliver did not practice with the Bills on Thursday due to an ankle injury he suffered earlier in the week in a different practice, and now he’s been officially ruled ‘out’ for Sunday’s game, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

You hate to see injuries happen to these athletes, but it’s an inevitable part of the game of football, especially at this level. When injuries come, the next man up has to do his job and the team must find a way to work around his absence. As for opponents, you can only play who’s in front of you, so not seeing Oliver on the field will be a huge relief for the offensive line.

This should make running the ball, which the Jets have already done to great effect so far this season, that much more of a priority for the Jets on Sunday. Expect to see a heavy dose of Breece Hall straight up the middle, along with some work from second-year Braelon Allen and even quarterback Justin Fields, who looks for real in this Jets offensive system.

If they can pound the rock on the ground, keep the chains moving, and wear out Buffalo’s defense with hard, physical football, the Jets have a fighting chance to win this one.
