The New York Giants have a huge question mark at the quarterback position going into Week 11 thanks to an injury to starter Jaxson Dart.
Dart suffered a concussion during the Week 10 loss to the Chicago Bears that forced his early exit from the contest.
It is the first concussion for Dart, who had been evaluated three other times this season before being cleared.
We'll get an official update for Dart's practice participation on Wednesday when the Giants release their first injury report of the week, but interim head coach Mike Kafka announced the team has already made a decision on his playing status.
Will Jaxson Dart play in Week 11?
No, Dart will not play in Week 11, head coach Mike Kafka confirmed.
Instead, the team will hand the ball to Jameis Winston, who has now officially jumped Russell Wilson on the quarterback depth chart.
"(Kafka) said Jameis Winston will be the starting QB. Russell Wilson will be the backup as Jaxson Dart works through the protocol," SNY's Connor Hughes said.
The depth chart change was reported earlier in the day, so this comes as no surprise.
It's also not a surprise because Wilson has played terribly this season and the Giants owed it to their players to make the switch.
Not to mention, this may also help Kafka, who needs to win as many games as possible in order to prove he deserves to be the full-time head coach after Brian Daboll was fired this week.
As for Wilson, he has likely seen his last start this season, barring injury.
Wilson has clearly been on the decline for a few years now and is highly unlikely to draw interest for a starting job in 2026 when he hits free agency.
We wouldn't rule out Wilson asking for his release right away given the circumstances, but the best he can hope for elsewhere is a backup job.
