Where is Cam Skattebo? Why Giants' rookie RB isn't playing with injury image

Cam Skattebo gained a lot of fans in short order with the New York Giants.

The rookie running back out of Arizona State is intense and physical and fun. It didn't take much for him to seize a lot of hearts.

He quickly proved he was the future of the Giants' backfield, ready to pair with fellow rookie Jaxson Dart for a long time.

And then Skattebo's season ended prematurely.

Where is Cam Skattebo?

Skattebo is out for the season with an injury.

Skattebo was initially reported to have dislocated his ankle in the Week 8 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. That's what was visually evident on the field when an awkward tackle left Skattebo's right ankle at an unnatural angle.

There was more to the injury than just the dislocated ankle, though.

Later that week, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Skattebo also had a fibula fracture and a deltoid ligament rupture.

"Surgery was right away to close the wound," Rapoport wrote, explaining why Skattebo had to stay in Philadelphia after the game to have the medical work done at Penn Presbyterian.

The good news for the Giants came in Rapoport's last sentence: "NYG expects him back for the offseason program."
