The New York Giants are making a change at the quarterback position and it's a bad sign for the Week 11 status of rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart.
According to the New York Daily News' Pat Leonard, the Giants will turn to Jameis Winston, not Russell Wilson, if Dart can't play against the Green Bay Packers.
"Source: The Giants are naming Jameis Winston their starting quarterback for Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers," Leonard reported.
Wilson had been operating as the No. 2 quarterback since being benched for Dart, but he has been plain bad whenever he's taken the field this season, so this is certainly an understandable change.
Jaxson Dart injury update
Dart is in the concussion protocol after exiting the Week 10 game early.
We'll get our next update on him on Wednesday, as interim head coach Mike Kafka will speak to the media before the team releases its first injury report hours later.
That said, the fact that the Giants are naming Winston as the starting quarterback is a clear indication that the team doesn't plan on having Dart play in Week 11.
It's not all that surprising after seeing video of Dart clearly being concussed after he fumbled on a play during the loss to the Chicago Bears. It was plainly obvious Dart was not right after that play.
Dart did manage to get back on the field briefly after that play, but the team decided to check him out in between quarters and he was ultimately ruled out.
That wasn't Dart's first concussion evaluation, as he had three previous ones that he was able to pass. That is very concerning and the Giants need to re-think how they're using the young signal-caller.
