At this point in the New York Giants offseason, observations should be taken with a grain of salt.
Considering the offseason workout program does not permit live contact or pads being worn, it's important not to get too ambitious when it comes to viewing performances in shorts and jerseys.
With that said, rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart is already looking the part as the No. 25 overall pick put on an impressive show during rookie minicamp over the weekend, per Charlotte Carroll of The Athletic.
"Dart finished his first day of rookie minicamp 8-for-10 passing during seven-on-seven drills, with the only two incompletions looking like drops by his receivers. Dart put plenty of zip on his passes, and he even navigated a couple of tight windows. Again, it’s early, but he fared well considering he was the only rookie participating in those seven-on-seven drills," Carroll wrote.
Dart will have to work his way up the depth chart before he's seriously considered for the starting role. The Giants were adamant about Russell Wilson starting off as QB1 on the depth chart despite having traded up for Dart in the draft.
The Ole Miss product is expected to need some time for his development to take place, which falls in line with the Giants adding both Wilson and Jameis Winston this offseason.
While Dart may continue to sprinkle in some reps during OTAs later in May, the real test will come during training camp and the preseason when the pads come on.
Until then, it's encouraging to see that he's at least taking steps in the right direction.
