If there's any doubt about Russell Wilson's commitment to the New York Giants, put it to rest now.
Despite being benched in favor of rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, Wilson reportedly sent a strong message about his future with the team on Wednesday.
New York Post's Ryan Dunleavy tweeted:
"Russell Wilson is not going to ask for a release or trade. He’s not giving up the Giants."
The veteran is going through a tough stretch right now.
The 10-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champ was initially named the starter when he signed his one-year deal this offseason. However, after a difficult 0-3 start capped by a 22-9 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, Wilson was benched in favor of Dart on Tuesday.
Against the Chiefs, Wilson faced boos and jeers from Giants fans, who erupted into chants of "We want Dart" after he threw an interception.
On Wednesday, coach Brian Dabboll revealed that it was his decision to start Dart.
"It's my decision," Daboll told reporters. "We're going with Jaxson. We're gonna get him ready to play this week and the remainder of the season."
He added:
"Not going to get into the specifics. I think it's the right thing for our football team, and that's why I'm doing it."
The Giants face the Chargers on Sunday at MetLife Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
