Giants reportedly set to bench Russell Wilson for rookie Jaxson Dart image

The Jaxson Dart era is reportedly upon us.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, the New York Giants are set to bench Russell Wilson in favor of Dart, who was drafted with the No. 25 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft.

"The future is now: The Giants are making first-round rookie QB Jaxson Dart their starter, per me and Mike Garafolo," Rapoport wrote. "After just a short stint starting and an 0-3 record, Russell Wilson heads to the bench. The Giants had a package of plays for Dart. Now, they’ll unleash it all."

The move comes just days after Wilson was abysmal in the Week 3 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Wilson, who was signed in free agency during the offseason, completed just 18-of-32 passes for 160 yards and two interceptions against the Chiefs, which secured the Giants' 0-3 start.

With head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen both on seats that are hotter than the sun, Dart is truly their last hope to save their jobs.

The problem is that Dart is going to have to overcome the exact same issues Wilson had. Granted, not everything was on Wilson's supporting cast, but the Giants have a bad offensive line that will no doubt make things more difficult for the rookie.

Adding to that concern, Dart draws a very tough matchup against a Los Angeles Chargers team that has one of the best defenses in the NFL dating back to last season.

Talk about a trial by fire.
