The New York Giants are nearing their decision with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Throughout the offseason, the Giants have been linked to Colorado star quarterback Shedeur Sanders. At first, New York was heavily favored to select the son of the Hall of Fame cornerback at No. 3.
However, their moves in free agency to add both Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston give them the flexibility to pass on a quarterback selection that high in the draft.
Then, just hours before the draft, ESPN's Adam Schefter made an emphatic statement, saying the Giants are not taking Sanders.
"They don't feel like they want to force the issue tonight," Schefter said. "Shedeur Sanders is not going No. 3. He's not going No. 3. Breaking news, Shedeur is not going three. We can dismiss that from the equation.
"They are happy to sit where they are and take the best players available. I'm just telling you that's where they're at."
"They don't feel like they want to force the issue tonight. ... Shedeur Sanders is not going No. 3."

That's a pretty bold statement with just hours to go until the draft. Of course, anything can happen, but Schefter seems confident that Sanders won't be the selection.

If that turns out to be the case, the Giants essentially have two options.
New York can go with the best player available, which is likely to be Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter. If, somehow, Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter falls to them, he would likely be the pick.
The other option for the Giants is to trade back from the No. 3 spot. However, that seems unlikely with a blue-chip prospect like Carter staring them in the face.
