Is panic already setting in with the New York Giants? Some analysts and fans believe so. Their disappointing 21-6 loss to the Washington Commanders on Sunday has certainly increased the pressure on the team and coach Brian Daboll.
After New York's opener loss, two-time Super Bowl champion and CBS Sports analyst Bryant McFadden placed much of the blame on quarterback Russell Wilson. He also has serious concerns about Wilson's future with the team.
Speaking after the game, McFadden said Daboll's patience with Wilson should be "extremely short," because the coach's job depends heavily on the quarterback's performance.
"There's no creativity in the offense, and you have a quarterback who’s not a playmaker," McFadden said.
He added that Wilson's inability to extend plays by buying time for his offensive line is a critical weakness. "When you have concerns of the offensive line, it’s imperative to have a potential playmaker at quarterback who can extend plays," McFadden explained.
He contrasted Wilson with former Giant Daniel Jones, who, despite his struggles, could escape pressure and prolong plays.
McFadden described Wilson as "a sitting duck in the pocket" who fails to avoid defenders, making him an "easy target."
The former Pittsburgh Steelers star expressed concern that the stagnant offense and defensive fatigue in the fourth quarter could damage team morale if changes are not made soon.
"If you don’t see a different production, it can really tear up the locker room," McFadden warned.
The Giants have Jaxson Dart as QB2. Before the pressure on Brian Daboll mounts further, it would be wise to name Dart the starter. The rookie showed promise during the preseason. Now, it's time for him to take the reins.
