Things are not going well for the New Orleans Saints entering the 2025 NFL Draft.
Despite bringing in a new coaching staff led by former Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, the front office opted to re-tool rather than rebuild the roster.
It was a polarizing decision by general manager Mickey Loomis given the opportunity he had to truly tear it down considering the financial state of the franchise.
After pushing more money to the future in an effort to win now, the Saints get hit with a surprising update about Derek Carr's shoulder, which has his availability for the start of the season in question.
When meeting with reporters Wednesday ahead of the draft, Loomis didn't have any update on Carr's prognosis other than confirming the injury was real.
"He does have an issue with his shoulder," Loomis told reporters. "We're hoping to get some resolution and clarity on that in the near future, and when we do, I'll report back to you. Otherwise, I don't have any more to state about Derek."
The Saints have the No. 9 overall pick in the draft and while they've been linked to a handful of quarterback prospects like Shedeur Sanders and Jaxson Dart, recent reports suggest New Orleans isn't considering a selection at that spot.

Carr's short tenure in New Orleans has been contentious to say the least. The Saints have failed to make the playoffs in his two seasons at the helm, and he was limited to just 10 games due to an oblique injury and a concussion.
Ultimately, the Saints will tell us how they feel about Carr's future during the draft, but it's still a rough situation to be in going into the biggest weekend of the offseason.
