The New Orleans Saints are in a clear rebuild under new head coach Kellen Moore. However, even when the roster is being rebuilt, there have to be positives for fans to hold onto, but one NFL analyst believes the Saints have no hope at one key position: quarterback.
Over the offseason, New Orleans invested a second-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to select Tyler Shough 40th overall. Still, there's an issue with this as Shough is an older rookie at 25 years old.
Furthermore, the Saints have Spencer Rattler as the other player competing to be the starting quarterback when Week 1 rolls around. Despite the competition, these aren't the ideal options for Moore.
The Saints are in for a rough 2025 season
CBS Sports' Danny Kanell shared a blunt take on the New Orleans quarterback situation, offering a warning Saints fans should keep in mind heading into the 2025 season.
"I mean, it's just a little bit of a disaster right now," Kanell said. "No one has taken the clear-cut lead. Tyler Shough, who I thought was probably overdrafted where he was taken from the Saints, he [has] looked completely in over his head, even though he was supposed to be this older guy coming from college who was going to be a little bit more ready.
"I think they probably go back to Spencer Rattler and give him the opportunity. But even that—is that a great answer for the future of this franchise?"

Kanell noted that Moore was dealt a bad card when veteran quarterback Derek Carr decided to retire in May. Once the 34-year-old opted not to return for the 2025 NFL season, the Saints quarterback room looks bleak.

"They really were sidetracked by Derek Carr deciding to step down, and you just feel bad for Kellen Moore and the rest of the team if this is who they're rolling out there," Kanell added. "I do wonder if they're making some phone calls, looking to upgrade this position — which might be the worst quarterback room in the entire NFL."
