The New England Patriots excited their fanbase by choosing explosive running back TreVeyon Henderson in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft out of Ohio State.

But so far, the training wheels have been on Henderson a bit.

Through two weeks, the former Buckeyes star has just eight carries.

In contrast, veteran RB Rhamondre Stevenson has 18 carries despite being less efficient.

What gives?

Why is Rhamondre Stevenson getting more carries than TreVeyon Henderson?

The Patriots are splitting up the backfield work on what to them feels like a logical line.

Stevenson is the early-down rusher. He's got 18 carries for 69 yards.

Henderson is the pass catcher, with eight grabs for 54 yards through two weeks.

But it hasn't actually played out that simply.

Stevenson also has seven catches for 100 yards.

Henderson has eight carries for 37 yards.

The rookie is averaging 4.6 yards per carry compared to Stevenson's 3.8 in small sample sizes. And Henderson showed in the preseason that he's a great runner with the ball after the catch.

Analysts continue to predict each week that Henderson will get a heavier load, but until that happens, it's hard to count on it.
