The New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills are doing battle on Sunday Night Football, and with both teams having fumbling issues with three in the opening quarter, more was to come.

With the game neatly poised at 3-3, Patriots running back Antoino Gibson fielded a kick return, but once he was met by the Bills' special teams unit, yet another fumble occurred, but this time there was more than came with it.

After the Patriots recovered the fumble, Gibson was seen lying on the ground holding his knee, signaling that something not so good had taken place.

Replays didn't show anything too serious, but as we know, injuries can be a funny thing, and Gibson was helped off the field by two New England trainers as Drake Maye lost one of his offensive weapons.

Gibson was getting a groove going prior to his injury, rushing for 21 yards on six carries while also having one reception for five yards to be a key mover for the Patriots' offense.

But the injury was a sour note in what had been a somewhat disjointed first half.

Gibson key weapon for Patriots

Given the fumbling issues from Rhamondre Stevenson, to now have Gibson not only fumble as well, but also go down injured with an apparent knee injury, the Patriots could be in a bit of trouble with only rookie TreVeyon Henderson ready to go into the game.

The hope is that Gibson won't be lost for too long, given his ability for the offense as a runner and receiver, coupled with his return skills, so the Patriots won't want to lose his talents for too long.

Given that Gibson was able to walk off the field under his own power, that is a good sign, but as we know, that also doesn't necessarily mean anything when it comes to the severity of the injury.

Still, fingers crossed.
