The New England Patriots are coming off their Week 14 bye week. At 11-2, they sit two games ahead of the Buffalo Bills, who won in dramatic come-from-behind fashion against the Cincinnati Bengals. Josh Allen had one of the best games of his career, totaling over 350 yards from scrimmage and four total touchdowns.
The Patriots will face Allen and the Bills in New England next Sunday in a game that will have massive ramifications on the AFC East. If the Patriots win, they will all but lock up the division championship, guaranteeing they host a playoff game. If Buffalo wins, they pull within one game of the Patriots and could end up coming back to claim their sixth straight AFC East crown.
Both quarterbacks are in the midst of the MVP race entering the game. Drake Maye is neck-and-neck with Matthew Stafford, while Josh Allen has played himself back into the conversation to potentially win his second straight MVP award. Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel was asked about the similarities between the two star quarterbacks.
"They're both really good at what they do," Vrabel said via Tom Carroll. "Josh probably got a couple [pounds] on him. And he kinda throws his shoulder in there [on runs] probably a little bit more than I would want Drake to. But I think they’re both great competitors."
The Patriots will need Maye to outduel the tremendous Bills' star in order to get the win as they look to lock up the division crown, but also the No. 1 seed in the AFC.
