Philadelphia Eagles fans tuning in to their Week 7 game will see a familiar face.

Carson Wentz is the Minnesota Vikings' starting quarterback for this matchup.

Wentz, of course, was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Eagles.

He had some great moments in Philly before eventually leaving in 2021 and bouncing around the league a bit.

Now, Wentz is back in a starting job, at least temporarily, and he gets to take that role against his first NFL team.

Why is Carson Wentz starting QB for Vikings vs. Eagles?

Wentz is filling in due to injury with Minnesota.

Second-year QB J.J. McCarthy is out with an ankle injury.

Wentz has already made multiple starts. McCarthy already missed his entire rookie season with a knee injury in 2024 as Sam Darnold filled in, and now Wentz gets the job playing a lot in 2025 with McCarthy again missing some time.

Who is the Vikings' backup QB?

The Vikings have an undrafted rookie as their backup QB with McCarthy out.

Behind Wentz has been Max Brosmer.

Brosmer went to the University of Minnesota, and he made his brief NFL debut earlier this season when Wentz temporarily left a game.

In the preseason, Brosmer shone brightly, and he seems ready if he needs to take the field at some point.
